There are many Urdu Keyboard Apps in Android Play Store to type in Urdu letters. Some of them are maybe good, some comes with annoying banner popup and some are just slow or not suitable for smaller screens.

I have Go Keyboard installed on my tablets for maybe, just in case if I ever have to type in Urdu but I am discovering its useful sides on Xtreme V10, a 3.5inch screen budget Android phone for Pakistani market from Voice. Urdu is one of many languages Go Phone supports very effectively and typing Urdu could be not only thrilling but important for many users in Pakistan.

Unlike other Urdu Keyboard apps available in Play Store, Go Keyboard’s specialty is complete Urdu letters. In many other apps Arabic is use to type Urdu, but because Urdu has more letters than Arabic the result often is a compromised Urdu sentences since users have to pick alternate letters to write words and it sounded strange.

Go Keyboard is clean, professionally developed, simple, matured and ad free app. Some of the features that make Go Keyboard app a unique and more useful are available for Urdu typing as well.

Dealing with the cursor keys and the selection of text is brilliant in Go Keyboard for smaller screen Androids. A button switches keyboard to cursor keys followed by another button to enable the selection. You will find options to Cut, Copy and Paste in the same layout along with other helpful keys right under your thumb.

And from settings you can enable cursor keys to always display on the main Keyboard so you don't have to switch layouts.

Under the Settings, you have customization from changing the layouts, themes, size of keys, vibration, sound and languages.

You have options to change the background of your keyboard as well by image of your choice as background.



This entire document is typed on Voice Xtreme V10 using Go Keyboard in Portrait mode, using one hand thumb typing in Note app.

In my opinion Windows Start button is one of the best things happened to computers. It made many of us feels at home at other platforms, a reason I believe every popular OS has an App to simulate Windows Start button.

I found some apps for the same purpose on Android before but Task Bar W8 is doing things way better. My cousin saw it the other day at my tablet and installed it right there and then on to his unit. I am not planning to remove it, infact it is now in my "Install First" list.

TaskBar W8, as name states is not only the Start button, it is full Windows Task Bar with a Start menu that contains list of all installed apps you have and some Settings items such as WiFi switch, Display Brightness Slider. You have control what Setting items you want to have on top.

 

The Start button stays with you in every app you use. You can control its transparency level. You can drag Start button along with screen's edge. Tap it and either Task bar or Start menu appears at the bottom. You can set position of Start menu to left or right in settings.

From customization options you can create regular or special folders in the Start menu. For example special folder named "Recent" will track the apps you recently used using the TaskBar. In free version you are limited to create only one folder at a time.

You can "Pin" your most used app to the task bar as well. In free version you can Pin one. Premium version will open up the world of folders and pins for you, among other useful things.

There is a search box in Start menu box to filter the list of apps. It shortlist the apps as you start typing. Long press on a Start menu item will pop menu for more options. You can hide an app from this list, move an app to folder.

TaskBar itself stays hidden until you tap the Start menu, in the options you can set to use Start menu without the Task bar. Like Windows, task bar will show the application you have running in background. A tap will bring that app up. A long press will close that app.

There is a Kill All button on task bar to clear the memory.

U Dictionary is an app for finding the meanings of English words in Urdu. It is very basic app, you type in the word and instantly a list of words appears on screen containing letters you punched in.

Clicking on any word from the list pop ups the meaning of that word. This is all this app does. There is an option to save your favorite words.

Some negative points I would like to point out in this app for the sake of future improvements.

1. This app, looks really bad. The design is really not good at all.
2. There should be option to tell how to pronounce a word. An audio reference would be better along side of it.
