Before buying China Brand Tablet in Pakistan (or India)
It was a time not far in past when I was roaming electronics, mobile and computer markets with 30k Pakistani rupees in my pocket searching for a tablet, and I couldn't find any. In fact people here had no idea what I was looking for. I asked some of the importers to get the tablets in Pakistan but funny when they said 'it will fail in Pakistani market'. Today, those same shops are full of tablets and tablets are as popular in Pakistan as any other part of the world. And thanks to China, tablets are affordable too.
China made Android Tablets are coming in amazing price range. But are these China made tablets available in Pakistan are reliable enough? Among dozens of unknown brands of these cheap tablets, which ones are not cheap in performance?
What spec values should you look for to find a good tablet for yourself in Pakistan? For a non technical person, understanding the technical details is not a walk in park so I put together some basic key features and numbers you should look for to get yourself a decent China made Android tablet.
Android Version: First thing you look for is what version of Android OS that tablet is running. As of now current popular version is Ice-cream Sandwich (4.0.4). Next version in line is JellyBean (4.1). Only look for these two names for the time being.
Processor: In case of Android, More is better. But never pick any tablet below 1ghz. Try to manage dual core tablet if it is possible but never pick any less such as 800mhz or 600mhz.
Ram: More of these low cost tablets are coming with 512mb ram, which sounds good, and looks good in demo videos but in reality they might crash more often. 1gb or more Ram for Android tablets is a wise choice or be ready to face occasional software/app crashes.
Storage: Built-in storage options for these tablets are starting from 4gb but it is strongly advise to buy a 8gb or better - 16gb memory card if you are picking a tablet with 4gb storage. 8 or 16gb built-in storage is also a decent option to go with.
Screen Resolution: Resolution is important on tablets because of their big screens. Try to choose at least 1024 based screen resolution. Less would work too but it will not deliver a pleasure viewing experience.
If you are buying tablet to use outside more often then you will also have to make sure to buy tablet with screen good in out door viewing.
Google Play Store: Make sure the tablet you are eyeing is coming with official Google Play, which is Android's app store. Without it you will not be able to install apps.
Research: Go online, go to market and check various brands by yourself. wWatch videos and read feedbacks from users before finalize your purchase.
Buying one: Let's be honest for a moment and being realistic here, China brands are China brands, if they work, they work. If not, you are on your own. In Pakistan I learn that not many dealers are offering after-sales-support, unless you pay nearly 2,000 Pakistani Rupees extra.
For that I strongly advise you to go to a dealer or shop, purchase it after checking the unit for yourself. Buying online is not a good idea especially for unknown brands.
Important Reminder: You also have to remember that when you set your mind to buy something costs over 40,000 rs at 10,000 rs, compromises are made, so do not try to compare these budget tablets with well-known brands such as Samsung or Asus.
Good reputed China brands works great for their price but again, they may be not as on level of expensive brands.
